This award-winning 43-storey residential tower in downtown Vancouver features two impressive suspended art installations that draw inspiration from traditional Japanese wood joinery. Crafted from aluminium treated to resemble natural wood, the sculptures create a striking visual presence within the building’s courtyard amphitheatre and above the pool area.

Hybrid Access was selected to complete the installation of both art installations, ensuring that the pieces were carefully positioned and secured within the structure. Given the height and complexity of the site, the project required detailed planning and specialized rigging systems, along with dedicated high angle rescue preparations to maintain safety during every stage of the installation process.

Complex Rigging and High Angle Rescue Planning

The tower’s unique architecture presented significant technical challenges throughout the project. Curved structural lines and domed vault elements created a complex working environment where traditional access systems were not practical. To safely install the suspended art installations, Hybrid Access designed custom rigging solutions tailored specifically to the building’s geometry.

Because work was performed at significant height and above sensitive areas such as the pool and courtyard, comprehensive high angle rescue planning was essential. The team developed specialized rescue procedures and anchor systems to ensure that every technician working on the project had immediate emergency support if required.

Precision Installation and Final Finishing

Once the rigging systems were in place, the team carefully maneuvered each sculpture into position. The installation process demanded precise coordination to avoid damaging either the structure or the delicate finish of the art installations while suspended within the curved architectural space.

After positioning the sculptures, Hybrid Access completed detailed touch-up painting to address any minor imperfections caused during installation.
