Hybrid Access is proud to maintain another long-term service agreement at a historic hydroelectric facility located on the Stave River, approximately 60 km east of Vancouver. Originally constructed in 1930, the site features a concrete gravity dam and a 105 MW powerhouse that continues to play an important role in regional energy production. Maintaining aging infrastructure in such environments requires specialized expertise and reliable access methods.

Through advanced rope access techniques, the Hybrid team can safely reach difficult areas of the dam and powerhouse without the need for extensive scaffolding or heavy equipment. This approach allows technicians to perform inspections, maintenance, and installations efficiently while minimizing disruption to operations and ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.

Specialized Rope Access Work and Structural Monitoring

A major part of the ongoing work at the facility includes technical installations and monitoring systems that support the long-term integrity of the dam structure. The Hybrid team performs inclinometer installations on dam gate actuators, helping engineers monitor movement and structural behavior over time. These precise tasks require skilled technicians trained in rope access methods.

In addition to instrumentation work, technicians regularly perform concrete inspections and targeted maintenance across the structure. These activities include glazing removal and replacement, structural checks, and preventative repairs. By using rope access, the team can move efficiently across large vertical surfaces while maintaining full control, allowing critical maintenance tasks to be completed safely and effectively.

High Angle Rescue and Safety Support for Complex Projects

Because hydroelectric facilities contain confined spaces, vertical shafts, and complex infrastructure, safety planning is essential for any project taking place on site. Hybrid Access supports third-party contractors by installing dedicated rescue systems and providing standby safety coverage during electrical installations and repairs throughout the facility.

These operations rely on trained specialists capable of performing high angle rescue in demanding industrial environments. The presence of a professional high angle rescue team ensures that workers operating in confined or elevated locations have immediate emergency response capability. This proactive safety approach allows other trades to work confidently while maintaining the highest safety standards across the entire facility.

About High Angle Rescue

Industrial hydroelectric facilities contain confined spaces, vertical shafts, elevated structures, and complex mechanical systems. In these environments, emergency preparedness is essential. High angle rescue services provide an additional layer of safety for workers performing installations, inspections, and maintenance tasks throughout the facility.

Hybrid Access installs dedicated rescue systems and provides standby safety coverage during work performed by other contractors on site. This ensures that any worker operating in a confined or elevated location has immediate access to trained rescue professionals if an emergency occurs.

With experienced technicians trained in rope systems and industrial rescue techniques, Hybrid Access Inc. helps maintain the highest safety standards on complex infrastructure projects like Ruskin Dam.

Why Rope Access?

Hydroelectric dams present complex access challenges. Large vertical surfaces, spillways, gate structures, and confined areas make traditional access methods such as scaffolding or heavy lifts costly and difficult to deploy.

Rope access provides a highly efficient alternative. Technicians can reach difficult locations quickly, allowing inspections, monitoring installations, and maintenance work to be completed with minimal disruption to facility operations. The system also reduces the footprint of equipment required on site.

For projects like Ruskin Dam, rope access delivers the flexibility, safety, and precision required for industrial infrastructure maintenance. With highly trained technicians and extensive experience in challenging environments, Hybrid Access Inc. remains a trusted partner for safe rope access solutions across critical energy facilities.
